Validators are responsible for committing new blocks to the blockchain. A validator's stake is slashed if they become unavailable or sign blocks at the same height (double sign). Please read about Sentry Node Architecture to learn how to protect your node from DDOS attacks and to ensure availability on the respective testnet or mainnet.
At genesis of Elys, the Elys network will have its own dedicated validator network. Elys aims to utilize ATOM Interchain Security (ICS) in a future iteration (v2). This means that it will utilize a hybrid concept to include the validator set of the Cosmos Hub. These validators will run another node dedicated to this chain and they will be paid via tx fees in the native token.
ICS v1 provides a stable platform for network security, and provides clear distinctions for investors who are analyzing risk/reward profiles for staking versus providing liquidity. The rollout of ICS v2 will enable a hybrid concept that fits well with the Elys vision.
